CIOB Northern Ireland inspires next generation of construction talent
The next generation of construction workers in Northern Ireland were given a glimpse into the future at a successful Meet the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) event in January 2025.
More than 70 young people, from both schools and colleges, learned about the benefits a career in the sector can bring, from a rewarding pay cheque to varied working environments and strong progression opportunities.
The event, hosted at Europa Hotel in Belfast, provided a unique platform for professionals and aspiring construction enthusiasts to connect.
"Giving young people the chance to see the vast opportunities and benefits of a career in construction is absolutely essential for the future of our industry," said Sarah Hallinan, Regional Manager for Ireland and Northern Ireland. "Events like this allow us to not only showcase the exciting potential within the sector but also connect students with professionals who can inspire and guide them.”
Guest speakers included Jonathan Payne FCIOB, Chair of the Northern Ireland Hub, Yvonne Conway MCIOB, Vice Chair, and Nouman Qadir MCIOB, Tomorrow's Leaders Representative.
The panel delivered insights on mentorship, training programmes, and the importance of collaboration in addressing industry challenges.
Attendees, which included people already working in a wide range of roles across the construction sector, also learned about the benefits of CIOB membership, including career progression opportunities, access to a wealth of CPD resources and invitations to numerous networking events.
Sarah continued: “Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event such a success - your engagement and support are what make initiatives like this so impactful.”
